2012 Show Descriptions

Drop-shot Smallmouths

Air Week: 2-13-2012

Michigan boasts some of the nation's most pristine and productive waters for smallmouth bass. On Torch Lake and Grand Traverse Bay, Shaw demonstrates his special smallmouth techniques with a drop-shot rig.

Stuart Tarpon

Air Week: 2-20-12

The autumn migration of mullet, vast schools of them, southward along the Atlantic coast of Florida, brings with it a horde of gamefish in hot pursuit - bluefish, sharks, and Shaw's favorite, tarpon. It's not only sport but a great spectacle of nature. Shaw joins forces with Capt. George Gozdz.

Tex-Mex Bass

Air Week: 2-27-12

Tourism in Mexico isn't quite the booming business it once was, but at Falcon Lake, on the Rio Grande along the border with Texas, the bass are as big and hungry as ever. Shaw rigs up with soft plastics and does it all - casting, flippin', and pitchin' - and these Tex-Mex border bass climb aboard.

Okeechobee Bass Action

Air Week: 3-5-12

With pro angler and renowned guide Steve Daniel, Shaw goes after hefty school bass on one of angling's fabled destinations - Lake Okeechobee in south Florida. On a steamy midsummer day the action is furious. Faster fishing for largemouths is hard to imagine.

Inglis Reds & Snook

Air Week: 3-12-12

In a part of the Gulf of Mexico he's never fished before, Shaw connects with shallow-water redfish. As a bonus he ties into a big snook that's wandered farther north along the coast than snook are supposed to go - proving his adage that in salt water you never know what might strike next.

Shad-bait Smallmouths

Air Week: 3-19-12

The smallmouth season is short on northern Michigan's Grand Traverse Bay, but for a brief time each year the fishing for this acrobatic species is unsurpassed anywhere. It's the best kind of bass angling - fast, hard-hitting fish in water so clear you can see every twist and turn of the fight.

Brushpile Bass

Air Week: 3-26-12

There's no bigger challenge in angling than finding and catching largemouth bass at nigh noon on a hot summer day. In many lakes the fish retreat to shady brushpiles, where they're tough to find and even tougher to tempt into taking your lure. Shaw and his son show how it's done.
